Working with families can be one of the most challenging parts of being an early childhood educator. In order to help build confident learners, teachers and parents have to work together to create a safe and supportive learning environment. It is important for us as educators to be confident in our teaching while also doing our best to meet the needs of each family.
Creating a safe and supportive environment is important for building community in the preschool classroom. We can improve our interactions with children by joining them in their play and asking open ended questions. With open ended questions, there is no pressure for children to answer correctly and we can extend their learning in a meaningful way.
I am always looking for new strategies that will help me stay focused and organized throughout the school year. As the busy school days take over, it can be hard to find the time (or even remember) to keep up with new routines if they are not really convenient. The one tool that I actually use and check regularly is a weekly planner, so I created my own version in a format that I find most useful.
